What you need to know about

JOINING THE

COMMITTEE

Our Club wouldn’t stay as active as it is without having a group of people

who are prepared to help keep the wheels oiled  -  and over the years we’ve

been able to maintain a Committee of Members who have brought

different skills, experience and knowledge to that role.

Changing circumstances mean that vacancies occur from time to time,

so we’re always on the lookout for anyone who might like to put a new hand

to the communal oil can.  That person might just be you  -  so let’s explain

a bit about what the (not very onerous) role could involve.

The Committee meets four times a year, usually on the second Wednesdays

of January, April, July and October.  The meetings start at 14.00, last about

an hour or so, and travelling expenses are reimbursed.  You’ll get an Agenda

and any supporting documents in advance, so that you can give some thought

to what you want to say.  We’re always happy to listen to everyone’s

point of view and to explain things in as much detail as you need.

Members normally “sign up” for a three year term, and can stand for re-election

after that, but you can also opt out at any time if your circumstances change.

Some Committee Members organise or help with events (which is great,

and there’s help on hand if you haven’t done that kind of thing before)

but it’s really up to you to decide what else you want to get involved in.

There’s an inherent “welfare” role, which isn’t usually onerous or frequent,

and often boils down simply to a bit of “tea and sympathy” or

pointing someone in the right direction for independent help

(for which we provide some written guidance and other brains to pick).

For practical purposes we allocate Committee Members to geographical areas

but the boundaries aren’t rigid, and you can call on others for help.
